Josh Hall Announces Dog’s Death Days After Divorce from Christina Haack

Josh Hall opened up on social media about the death of his nearly 11-year-old dog, Stella. 

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, Hall, 44, shared the sad news on Instagram with a video compilation of images of him and Stella. 

“We know what we are signing up for when we get a pet; they will more than likely go before us,” he began the post’s lengthy caption. “No matter how you prepare and how strong you think you are, nothing will prepare you for losing your loyal companion and the heartbreak that comes with it.”

Hall, who recently finalized his divorce from his ex-wife, HGTV star Christina Haack, went on to reveal that he adopted the female dog as a puppy from a litter that had contracted canine parvovirus, or parvo. This highly contagious viral illness affects the cardiac and intestinal systems of dogs and wolves. Of her litter, Stella was the only pup to survive parvo.

“I was originally set to get a male, but when I saw her little face behind the fence and we locked eyes, I was done…from that moment on, she owned me,” wrote Hall. 

He continued to honor the late dog in the caption, calling her “the most loving and sweetest dog I’ve not only cared for” and his “only constant.” He also went on to describe the pet’s health battles and resilience.

“I feel like she kept fighting … not just to stay alive, but to be there for me and show me her unconditional love,” he wrote. “She did an incredible job and got me through it all.”

The dog’s death comes days after a California judge finalized Haack and Hall’s divorce. Hall took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the milestone, writing, “Excited to spend Labor Day weekend in the real reality. Finally, legally divorced and a free man.”  

Along with an image of himself petting a saddled horse, the caption concluded, “Lesson learned: don’t marry someone who needs constant public validation and will use your personal drama for attention.” 

The former couple tied the knot in 2021 and filed for divorce in July 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

During their union, Hall appeared on Haack’s HGTV renovation series, Christina on the Coast, as well as its spin-off, Christina in the Country. Both shows revealed a behind-the-scenes look at their relationship as well as Haack’s home design business.

He also briefly appeared with Haack on the house-flipping competition series, The Flip Off; however, their relationship ended early in production, which led to his exit from the show.

Haack and Hall did not have any children together, and, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, neither Haack nor Hall will receive spousal support.

Currently, Hall is dating Stephanie Gabrys, and Haack is in a relationship with Christopher Larocca.
