A source close to The Naked Gun told PEOPLE on July 29 that Neeson and Anderson, who costar in the film, had “a budding romance in the early stages.”
“It’s sincere, and it’s clear they’re smitten with each other,” the insider said at that time, noting that the pair were “enjoying each other’s company” as they promoted the film together.
Last month, Joely showed her support for the pair and their new movie, as Anderson shared a post to Instagram that featured photos of herself and Neeson celebrating The Naked Gun.
Under the post that included romantic and silly shots of Neeson sprinkling some popcorn over her head, Joely left a string of red heart emojis in the comments section.

After TMZ claimed in a report Friday, Aug. 29, that publicists for Anderson and Neeson manufactured the relationship for PR, a source close to The Naked Gun told PEOPLE, “Everything between them has been genuine.”
“Neither would ever take part in a publicity stunt,” the insider added. “They have a great time. Neither of them needs the publicity.”
One source even laughed at an allegation from the report that the actors never had a one-on-one date, calling it “ridiculous.”
Another insider told PEOPLE, “Their relationship isn’t just for show. They have a real connection. There’s no incentive for either of them to stage something like this.”
