Wednesday season 2 has come to a close — and viewers are on the edge of their seats to find out what’s to come for the gothic mystery.

Based on the iconic character from the Addams family franchise, Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character, navigating life at the eerie Nevermore Academy, while unraveling a supernatural mystery tied to her relatives’ past. After its November 2022 premiere, the show became an instant hit globally, becoming Netflix’s most-watched television series of all time in the 90 days after its release, per the streaming platform.

The first half of Wednesday‘s sophomore season (episodes 1-4) premiered in August 2025, following Wednesday’s return to the spooky halls of Nevermore. After much anticipation, the season’s second part (episodes 5-8) was released on Sept. 3, ending with several shocking cliffhangers that left fans wondering what’s in store for the series.

“Hopefully fans are very surprised and very satisfied by the finale,” Wednesday co-creator Al Gough told Tudum following the last episode. His co-creator and co-showrunner, Miles Millar, added that he hopes the final reveal would serve as “hopefully a nice breadcrumb that leads audiences to wonder about season 3 and what the new adventure for Wednesday will be.”

So, will there be a Wednesday season 3? Here’s everything we know so far about the eerie Netflix show’s next chapter.

Good news, Wednesdays fans! Netflix announced in August 2025 that season 3 of the beloved series was officially in the works.

“Television has — and always will be — a team sport,” Gough told Tudum during the season 3 renewal announcement. “Miles [Millar] and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners.”

While Netflix hasn’t released an official synopsis for Wednesday season 3, Gough and Millar shared some teasers with Tudum during the renewal announcement.

“Our goal for season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” Gough said. “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”

Millar added, “We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in season 3!”

Following the finale, the co-showrunners also revealed to Tudum which storylines from season 2 will carry into the next season. After the shocking ending revealed that Aunt Ophelia is alive and hidden away in Grandma Hester Frump’s (Dame Joanna Lumley) house, Gough told Tudum that it was “always the plan to give viewers a glimpse of her at the end of the season in a way that they weren’t expecting, and then that’s a driver into season 3.”

He also hinted at complicated family dynamics ahead, particularly between Wednesday and her grandmother.

“For a show in tones of black and white, there’s nothing black and white about any of these relationships,” Gough said. “There really is more to learn in season 3.”

Another lingering question centers on Wednesday’s psychic abilities, which she lost in season 2. As the season came to an end, Wednesday’s vision of Ophelia suggested that some of them might have been restored.

“So season 3 offers the hope that Wednesday’s powers will be back,” Millar told Tudum.

As for why she saved Tyler (Hunter Doohan) in the finale, Millar explained that there are a few strategic reasons that will manifest in season 3.

“It gives the distraction she needs to take out the whole machine and save her brother,” he said. “I think she also sees something in Tyler. Even though she says he’s irredeemable — what does she really think? As we get into season 3, we’ll question why she did that.”

Finally, with Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie) in the afterlife and Dort (Steve Buscemi) having died in the finale, Nevermore is in need of a new leader. Gough told Tudum that audiences will be “very surprised” at who takes on the role in season 3.

It has yet to be revealed which cast members will return to Nevermore Academy for the next chapter of Wednesday. However, it’s highly unlikely that there would be a Wednesday season 3 without the titular character herself, meaning fans can likely expect Ortega’s return.

Fans will have to stay tuned to see which of her Nevermore Academy friends and Addams family members will return.
