After rowing 9,000 miles from Peru to Australia, the three Maclean brothers had some simple asks.
On Saturday, Aug. 30, the Scottish trio — Jamie, Ewan and Lachlan — broke the record for the fastest non-stop and unsupported rowing across the Pacific Ocean. They survived the months-long trek by eating freshly caught fish and freeze-dried meals, according to the BBC, but wanted something ooey and gooey upon finishing their journey.
Just hours before concluding their 139-day trek, oldest brother Ewan posted a video calling to the marina where they would be docking. “Cairns Marina,” the 33-year-old addressed. “Do you have pizza and beer? I repeat, do you have pizza and beer? Over.”

The brothers’ 9,000-mile journey from Peru to Australia was physically and mentally “relentless,” Jamie, 31, told BBC when they were on land. The record-breaking trip took longer than expected with tropical storms (one even knocked 27-year-old Lachlan overboard) that sent them off-course. Throughout the adventure, the trio, who are raising money for clean water projects in Madagascar, kept fans updated with their triumphs and mishaps on social media.
Videos documented the strenuous trip, showing rocky water, blister-covered hands and dwindling food supplies. Silly moments, like accordion-playing sessions and video calling with Outlander star Sam Heughan, were shared, too. Other clips from their journey showed the brothers rowing and wishing for the cheesy meal. “Would love a pizza,” one of the brothers lamented and another responded, “I’d kill for a pizza.”

Fortunately, the crowds of supporters waiting for the brothers at the marina were prepared with the requested supplies. After Jamie, Ewan and Lachlan lit flares and played the bagpipes, they docked their boat and had beers in their hands before they even stood on solid land. Loved ones handed the Macleans pizzas, which they ate while talking to news outlets.
In the days following their shoreline arrival, the brothers went to Wahlburgers for burgers, sweet potato fries and, you guessed it, beer. The fast food spot, owned by Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg, posted about the visit, writing in the caption, “Even our @markwahlberg said your journey could be a movie 👀”
The Maclean’s beat Fyodor Konyukhov’s record from 2014, when he rowed the Pacific Ocean in 159 days, according to Guinness World Records.
