Emily Blunt is elated to be working on The Devil Wears Prada 2 — but much less happy about the footwear required for the job.
In a new interview with Net-a-Porter, published Sept. 1, the Oscar-nominated actress, 42, revealed that while she knows how to rule a red carpet, in her personal life, she likes casual clothes — especially when it comes to shoes. Even her going-out looks typically include a pair of sneakers, she said.
Off-screen, Blunt told Net-a-Porter, “I drown myself in clothes.” Added the star: “I quite like oversized; I like to hide, I like to shroud.”
So when it came time to reprise her role as Emily Charlton — the former assistant to Runway Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) — she was less than enthused at the thought of long days on the New York City set in stilettos.

“I don’t love wearing heels, so getting back to The Devil Wears Prada has been a rude awakening for all of us,” the Oppenheimer actress said.
As for what it’s been like to come back to the beloved character, a return that seemingly includes a dramatic, bleach-blonde hair transformation, Blunt gave Net-a-Porter a playful expression and a one-word response: “Wild.”
Paparazzi shots have offered glimpses into Blunt’s attire in the sequel to the 2006 film, from Dior sunglasses to Maison Margiela skirts. The actress says that when it comes to some of the more restricting attire, her costar (and real-life brother-in-law) Stanley Tucci does more harm than good.

“He’s not good for your Devil Wears Prada diet,” the actress joked of Tucci, 65, “because he’s cooking pasta and making me drink martinis with him every night.” Joked the star: “He was like, ‘Em, do you want some pomodoro pasta?’ I’m like, ‘I do, but I have to be in Dior couture today, so we’ll see.’ ”
Blunt also addressed the sheer amount of pap shots that have been snapped on the set of the sequel, stating that she and the rest of the cast are embodying Anne Hathaway’s “zen approach” to it.
Fans of the original film have been very vocal about the costumes seen on set — with some expressing frustration about the sheer number of looks that have been spoiled thanks to the swarm of paparazzi.

In an Aug. 19 interview, Costumer Molly Rogers told The New York Post that “people are just gonna get burned out” with all the paparazzi photos. “It’s just such a shame,” Rogers added. “A lot of times, you feel like you’ve already seen the movie just by the exterior shots.”
Hathaway, 42, reprises her role as protagonist Andy Sachs in the forthcoming sequel. The original movie saw the recent college graduate in the intense world of fashion and global media, juggling her humble past with a bright future while working as an assistant to Streep’s Priestly. Tucci, meanwhile, reprises his role as Andy’s coworker and pal, Runway art director, Nigel Kipling.
