Would you like a tall, grande or venti post-workout drink?

Starting Monday, Sept. 29, Starbucks will add Protein Lattes and Protein Cold Foam to menus nationwide.

Each of the macro-focused beverages has 15 to 36 grams of protein in a grande (16-oz.) drink, according to a press release obtained by PEOPLE. The release explained that the new protein options are part of the chain’s attempts to “modernize its menu” and cited an International Food Information Council study in which 70% of the 3,000 Americans surveyed said they want to consume more protein.

At the end of the month, customers will be able to customize their beverages with Protein Cold Foam, which adds about 15 grams of protein. The drink addition will be available in a range of sweetened, sugar-free and unsweetened flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, matcha, a brand-new banana option and others. Plus, fans looking for a punch of protein don’t have to miss out on seasonal sips as limited-time flavors like pumpkin and pecan will be available, too.

In addition to the customization option, Starbucks will add a variety of iced beverages with Protein Cold Foam to the permanent menu, though the specifics have not been shared as of Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The permanent menu will also make room for an array of Protein Lattes but the details about flavors are not clear as of this story’s publication. What is known about the upcoming beverages is that they are made with Protein-boosted Milk and each grande latte will have between 27 to 36 grams of protein.

The Protein-boosted Milk will be made daily by Starbucks baristas blending 2% milk with unflavored protein powder. It will be available for customers customizing any drinks, like Refreshers, hot chocolate and cappuccinos.

This move to update its menu is nothing new for Starbucks. The coffee company has launched several initiatives, like return of free refills for in-store customers and requiring customers to make purchases in order to use the restroom, since CEO Brian Niccol took over in September 2024.
