Man Nearly Gouged Out Driver’s Eyes in Road Rage Incident, Police Allege. Now He’s Facing Charges

A man was arrested after authorities allege he nearly gouged out another driver’s eyes in a road rage incident in Vermont.

Aaron Williams, 44, has been charged with aggravated assault and maiming in connection with the alleged attack on Aug. 26, per court documents obtained by WPTZ, WCAX and Seven Days Vermont. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail, per the reports.

The victim, identified as 46-year-old Ronnie Bushway II, claimed to police that Williams cut him off and then brake-checked him in traffic, WPTZ reported, citing court documents. That’s when both drivers got out of their cars. Williams then allegedly pushed his thumbs into Bushway’s eyes and repeatedly punched him, per the report.

Bushway has since undergone multiple surgeries and remains hospitalized with limited eyesight, WCAX reported, citing police.

“There’s been so much going on at the hospital with the doctors,” the victim’s father told WPTZ. “His wife’s been with him the whole time. I don’t know the [time] recovery, but it sounds like it could be a long time.”

Police claim Williams drove off after the alleged attack but dash cam video from Bushway’s car helped them identify the suspect, Seven Days Vermont reported.

A bail hearing for Williams is expected to be scheduled in the next few weeks.
