Savannah Guthrie Reveals the Surprising Thing She Did While Her Kids Were Away

When Savannah Guthrie’s kids were at summer camp, she was finally able to get her beauty sleep.

During a pre-recorded episode of Today with Jenna & Friends on Monday, Sept. 1, Guthrie joined Jenna Bush Hager and the two friends spoke about their summers. Speaking about how her daughter Vale, 11, and Charley, 8, had recently attended sleep-away camp, Guthrie admitted she did one thing she hadn’t done in a while.

“You had a free summer,” Bush Hager began.

“Well, a part of it. We did something that hasn’t happened in 11 years,” Guthrie responded. “Both of our kids went to sleep-away camp for three weeks.”

“No kids, no nothing. It was amazing and so quiet,” the mom of two continued. “At first, we were like, ‘Should we go out to dinner? Should we do this or that?’ And we did that for a couple of days. And then we started getting in bed at 6:30 to watch TV and read.”

Guthrie said that their time alone reminded her of when she was still dating her husband Michael Feldman.

“We had no kids, and on a Saturday you’d wake up and be like, ‘What should we do today?’ ” Guthrie recalled of the time.

Although her kids were away for much of the summer, Guthrie still found time to celebrate her daughter’s birthday this past August.

On Aug. 13, Guthrie shared a few snaps of her daughter Vale on Instagram to honor the tween on her 11th birthday. The proud mom posted three pictures of her daughter on her big day, including a solo shot of her with a tennis racket in her hands and a mother-daughter selfie.

She captioned her post, “this is 11 – happy birthday to my beautiful girl 💗”

Back in February, Guthrie’s kids had a special morning when they joined their mom at work. The journalist brought out her two kids as Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts joined her on Today. In a sweet video posted to Instagram, both kids wore Hurts’ jersey as they shook his hand, while Guthrie proudly looked on, introducing them one at a time.

Guthrie’s husband, who’s a Philadelphia native, also joined the foursome on screen, stepping onto the stage to pose for a photo.

“‘Best morning ever.’ 💚🏈🦅 #JalenHurts,” the video’s caption read as the Eagles’ fight song played in the background.
