Freshman FSU Football Player ‘Critical but Stable’ After Being Shot

A linebacker for the Florida State University football team is in critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound, the school said.

Ethan Pritchard, a freshman linebacker for the Florida State Seminoles, was reportedly shot on Sunday, Aug. 31, in Havana, Fla. while visiting family, according to a statement from the university.

As of the morning of Monday, Sept. 1, Pritchard is in critical but stable condition.

“Ethan Pritchard is in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at a local hospital after suffering a gunshot wound last night while visiting family in Havana, Florida,” the Seminoles said in a statement.

“The Pritchard family is thankful for the support from so many people, as well as the care from first responders and medical professionals, and asks that their privacy be respected at this time,” they added.

Concluding the statement, the school said “further updates will be provided as they are available.”

Additional details about the reported shooting were not immediately made available.

According to local news station WCTV, Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Monday morning that Pritchard was identified as the victim of the shooting, which occurred just before 10 p.m. on Sunday night near the Havana Heights Apartments near South Main Street.

The outlet said they were told by the sheriff’s public information officer Captain Anglie Holmes that Pritchard was found shot inside a vehicle.

Holmes told WCTV that officers “were able to get him out of the vehicle” before “EMS arrived” and transported him to a local hospital.

Pritchard’s most recent Instagram post is a photo of himself in Seminoles gear shared June 13. Now, a number of commenters have offered their prayers and messages of support in the comments of the post.

“Nole nation and the world is praying for you bro ! God is looking over you,” one user wrote.

In a comment under the university’s statement about Pritchard, one user said, “Prayers up from the Miami fanbase! Some things are larger than football.”
