Cornerback battle and other things to watch in Giants’ preseason finale
Three things to watch for in the Giants’ preseason finale vs. the Patriots at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night:
1. The summerlong competition between Deonte Banks and Cor’Dale Flott for a starting cornerback spot included some bumps in the road, as both players missed time dealing with injuries.
This could be a case of the guy who plays the most, or at all, in the final preseason game is not in a prime spot as far as winning the job. It might already be decided.

2. Do we see more of 278-pound defensive tackle Elijah Chatman lining up on offense at fullback?
In his quest to stay on the roster, a dual role for Chatman is being explored.
Not that the Giants use a blocking back too often, but if the fire hydrant-like Chatman can prove he can be an asset in the backfield, it enhances his chances to stick around.
3. This figures to be the last time we see Tommy DeVito on the field in a Giants uniform.

He is QB4 and there are spots for only three.
In his short time with his hometown team, the Jersey kid acquitted himself well and that three-game winning streak in 2023 with him as the starter (that Monday night upset of the Packers was something) was beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.
DeVito deserves a nice round of applause on the way out.
