Michigan to receive fine upward of $20M for sign-stealing scandal

The NCAA is going after Michigan’s wallet.

Michigan will receive a fine of more than $20 million relating to postseason football revenue over the next two seasons, ESPN reported Friday, the same day the NCAA will release its findings of its investigation into the team’s alleged sign-stealing scheme in 2023 that rocked college football.

Head coach Sherrone Moore will also receive an extra one-game suspension in 2026 on top of the self-imposed Weeks 3 and 4 bans for this upcoming season, per the report.

The sign-stealing scandal came to light during head coach Jim Harbaugh’s final season in Ann Arbor, which culminated with a national title exit before he left for the NFL as coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Former staffer Connor Stalions is accused of masterminding a sign-stealing scheme, which led to the NCAA’s investigation.

Michigan suspended him before he resigned.
