Donald Trump To Host The 2025 Kennedy Center Honors, Names Sylvester Stallone and Gloria Gaynor Among This Year’s Honorees
Donald Trump has unveiled the 48th class of Kennedy Center Honorees.
The president made the announcement on Wednesday at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The honorees are Sylvester Stallone, Michael Crawford, George Strait, Gloria Gaynor, and KISS.
After taking the podium, Trump said he has “agreed to host” the event, which is set to take place later this year. While he claimed he “didn’t want to do it,” he said that he “think[s] it will be quite successful, actually.”
“It’s been a long time. I used to host The Apprentice finales, and we did rather well with that,” he added. “So I think we’re going to do very well because we have some great honorees.”
Once he announced the 2025 honorees, Trump praised them as “outstanding people,” noting that the event will take place in December and be broadcast on CBS.
Shortly after expressing his intent to name himself Chair of the performing arts center, the Kennedy Center Board elected Trump to fill the role in February, ousting former Chair David M. Rubenstein. Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter was also removed from the Board, and replaced with interim President Richard Grennell.
“In a few short months since I became Chairman of the Board of the Kennedy Center, we have completely reversed the decline of this cherished national institution,” Trump claimed on Wednesday. “It was being run down, money wasn’t being spent properly. They were building things they shouldn’t have built that nobody wanted instead of taking care of the great gem that it is.”
Trump also said that since he assumed his position at the head of the Board, they “ended the woke political programming and [are] restoring the Kennedy Center as the premier venue for performing arts anywhere in the country, anywhere in the world.”
Among 2024’s honorees were the Apollo Theatre Foundation, Bonnie Raitt, Francis Ford Coppola, Arturo Sandoval, and the Grateful Dead.
