Jake Bird sent to minors after nightmarish Yankees start

One of the Yankees’ big trade deadline acquisitions is already being sent down to the minors.

The Yankees optioned Jake Bird to Triple-A on Monday night after he gave up a three-run, game-winning home run against the Rangers.

The move makes room for Mark Leiter Jr. on the roster as he returns from the injured list.

It’s been a nightmarish start in pinstripes for Bird, whom the Yankees acquired from the Rockies on Thursday.

The 29-year-old gave up four runs in ⅓ of an inning as the Yankees lost a crushing 13-12 game against the Marlins on Friday night.

After Bird threw a scoreless inning on Saturday, he gave up a walk-off home run to Josh Jung.
