Police chopper lands at Maryland elementary school to rescue drowning man in dramatic video
It was a lifeline from above.
A Baltimore police chopper made a daring landing next to a Maryland elementary school to save a drowning man at a nearby pool, and the whole airborne rescue was caught on dramatic video.
Newly released footage from the Baltimore Police Department captured the moment its Aviation Unit touched down at the Walter P. Carter Elementary School shortly after 8 p.m. on July 26.
The victim, an unidentified 25-year-old man, was swimming in the closed city pool at the site when he got in trouble in the water — as several bystanders are seen in the video trying to revive him.
That’s when cops received a 911 call and alerted the police chopper patrolling the area.
“BPD Aviation Unit (Foxtrot) was patrolling in the area and responded to the school,” cops said on YouTube. “Foxtrot arrived to the location and observed an unidentified male inside the pool water, with citizens removing him from the pool and attempting to provide him aid.”
The clip shows the chopper touch down in a grassy area, with officers running to the pool.
Police said the cops began CPR on the man, revived him and transported him to a local hospital, where he was treated. His current condition was not immediately clear.
