Renée Rapp Fantasizes About Which Guest Role She Would Play On ‘Law & Order: SVU’: ‘Mariska Hargitay’s Lover”

Renée Rapp did not hold back when she was asked what guest role she would like to play on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The former Sex Lives of College Girls star, who is currently taking a break from acting to focus on her music career, was positively gushing as she fantasized about possibly playing Mariska Hargitay‘s love interest on the show.

The former Sex Lives of College Girls star confessed during a recent interview that she would be interested in playing a guest role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

“I would be Mariska Hargitay‘s lover. She would be gay, finally,” Rapp said in a social media video shared by The Today Show.

Rapp recounted that there was once an episode where Christopher Meloni‘s Detective Elliot Stabler assumed that Hargitay’s Detective Olivia Benson was a lesbian.

“There was an episode where they were talking about it and considering if she was gay. I feel like Christopher Meloni‘s character was like, ‘No, like, you’re a lesbian.’ And she was was like, ‘Um, no,’” Rapp said, before calling Detective Benson a “liar.”

The Mean Girls star even pitched a possible storyline for her and Hargitay’s characters.

“I would be her lover,” Rapp continued. “And we would somehow get tangled in an undercover kind of miss[ion], probably with a drug empire.”

It looks like Detective Stabler has some competition!

Rapp made her television debut with the HBO Max series Sex Lives of College Girls until she exited in 2023 after Season 2 to focus on her musical career. She also reprised her Broadway role of Regina George for the film adaptation of the musical, Mean Girls. Rapp does not currently have any upcoming roles confirmed in film or television, but this could be the role that gets her back on our screens.

For now, however, Detective Benson has her hands full leading the SVU unit and juggling her romance with Meloni’s Detective Stabler.

And it appears that we will be seeing more of the star-crossed lovers. Meloni recently shared a photo of himself with Hargitay and Dann Florek, teasing a possible cameo in the upcoming 27th season. News of his appearance comes after Meloni joked that he’s been “trying” to kiss Hargitay on the show.

Whether Stabler and Benson decide to take their relationship to the next level or not this season, Benson certainly has her options cut out for her.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit returns to NBC on Sept. 25.
