Cam Skattebo is winning over Giants fans and Brian Daboll

He hears you and he apologizes for not acknowledging the cheers and the screams of his first name and especially the shouts of a rhythmic last name seemingly created to be chanted and heralded.

If Cam Skattebo cannot yet be anointed a fan favorite as he is so early in his nascent NFL career, he is surely someone the fans want to see and want to watch and want to envision knocking a linebacker back, back, back as he gains yards and admirers. Every fiber in his short, compact body wants to respond to the enthusiasm, to go over and slap hands and pose for pictures.

He is at work this summer at his first training camp with the Giants and thus it would be bad form if he strolled over to the sideline and missed his name being called by a coach to get onto the field.

“I wish I could turn around and say ‘What’s up?’ to all of ’em, but we’re at practice and I got to focus,’’ Skattebo said Monday after a sweltering 90-minute session. “I try my best to peek my head over there and say ‘What’s up?’ when I can.
