’28 Years Later’ Comes to Digital, But When Will the ’28 Years Later’ Movie Be Streaming Free on Netflix?

Thirty-seven days after the new 28 Days Later movie opened in theaters, 28 Years Later is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent tomorrow.

Directed by the OG team director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, 28 Years Later picks up—as the title suggests—28 years after the 2007 movie 28 Weeks Later. The survivors of the Rage virus epidemic have found a new way of life, trying to stay alive while avoiding the infected. This third movie features a new cast, led by star Jodie Comer, who plays a woman named Isla who suffers from memory loss. Her husband Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is a scavenger trying to keep them both alive.

Also starring Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding, 28 Years Later was a hit at the box office, earning over $150 million worldwide. Now, Sony hopes to make even more money with the premium video-on-demand release of the movie. But before you spend $25 to watch 28 Years Later at home, you should know that we expect to see 28 Years Later streaming free on Netflix before the end of the year.

How to watch the28 Years Later movie on streaming:

28 Years Later is not currently streaming free on any of the subscription-based streaming services. However, if you don’t want to pay to buy or rent the movie, we do expect to see 28 Years Later streaming on Netflix in the near future, because of the Sony-Netflix output deal.

Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.

When will the 28 Years Later movie be streaming free on Netflix?

28 Years Later will likely be on Netflix in the next few months. Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release. Another recent Sony movie, Kraven the Hunter, came to Netflix about three months after opening in theaters, while Sony’s One of Them Days began streaming on Netflix just two-and-a-half months after opening in theaters. Still other Sony movies have taken four months to come to Netflix. So while it hasn’t been consistent every time, we do expect to see 28 Years Later on Netflix in the next few months.

If 28 Years Later follows the same release pattern as Kraven the Hunter, you can expect 28 Years Later to stream on Netflix around late September 2025, aka three months after the movie opened in theaters in the U.S. in late June. It will be free to stream for anyone with a Netflix subscription.

In the meantime, you can watch the 28 Years Later movie online by buying or renting the movie on digital platforms.
