Texans running back Joe Mixon is set to miss extended time with the foot injury that landed him on the non-football injury list to start training camp, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The exact timeline for his recovery is unclear. According to Rapoport, Mixon will be reevaluated closer to the season, which would seem to indicate a possibility that he misses games.

Houston did add running back depth in the offseason, which should help them weather any time Mixon misses.
They signed Nick Chubb in free agency and drafted Woody Marks in the fourth round out of USC.
Chubb has his own injury history, with a season-ending knee injury in 2023 that kept him out until Week 7 last season, but the four-time Pro Bowler is currently healthy.
Marks ran for 1,133 yards and nine touchdowns with the Trojans last season, and had 47 receptions for 321 receiving yards.

That was part of a general overhaul of the offense around C.J. Stroud for Houston this offseason. The Texans also added Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel and Christian Kirk, along with hiring Nick Caley as their offensive coordinator.
