Justin Fields benched for Tyrod Taylor as Jets try to spark offense

It took 30 minutes of bad play on Sunday for Jets coach Aaron Glenn to reverse course and bench quarterback Justin Fields.

Glenn defended Fields after last week’s loss in London and throughout the week, saying it was just one bad game.

But Fields went 6-for-12 passing for 46 yards in the first half Sunday against the Panthers, and Glenn yanked him at halftime in favor of backup Tyrod Taylor.

The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in March that included $30 million in guaranteed money. That move came after they dumped Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets hoped they could get Fields to turn his career around with them after failed stops in Chicago and Pittsburgh.

Fields has yet to throw an interception this season, but he has been slow to release the ball and ineffective overall.

Fields was sacked nine times by the Broncos last week, many of them coming after he held onto the ball too long.
