Did Alex Russo Die In The ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Season 2 Finale? Selena Gomez Fans Demand Answers

Everything is not what it seems.

The second season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place ended with the shocking reveal that Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) is the mother of Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), the young and powerful wizard she initially asked her older brother, Justin Russo (David Henrie), to mentor back in Season 1.

After being kidnapped by Lord Morsus, Billie’s paternal grandfather, we learn that, years ago, Alex used a spell to erase everyone’s memory of Billie to protect her from her evil grandfather. When a rift is reopened between the mortal world and the dark magical world (and everyone’s memories are restored), Alex sacrifices herself by tackling Lord Morsus into the portal to save Billie and the rest of her family.

So, does that mean Alex Russo is dead? The internet might think so, but we have some other theories. Keep reading.

Is Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo dead?

Honestly? We don’t know. Yes, Alex sacrifices herself in the Season 2 finale. But Justin also promises Billie that they will find her someday, wherever she is. If you ask me, the people on the internet claiming Alex is gone for good are jumping to conclusions. After all, Gomez previously revealed that “half the reason” she reprised her beloved role as Alex was for her younger sister, and we can’t disappoint Gracie by killing off such an iconic character! It is a Disney show, for crying out loud.

Still not convinced? After claims of Alex’s death began surfacing online, Henrie took to X (formerly known as Twitter), to write, “Just so you know, Alex Russo is tougher than you think – and there’s a lot more to come. You’re asking all the right questions. Stay tuned, #WizardsBeyond has got some magical surprises up our sleeves.”

Therefore, I’m going to go with the assumption that Alex is not dead. But only time will tell. Here’s hoping Disney+ gets Season 3 to us ASAP!

Is Alex Russo a mom?

Yes, Alex Russo is Billie’s mother. As we learn in the final moments of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2, the mysterious Damien Penwolf (son of Lord Morsus) used to be evil until he fell in love with Alex, betrayed his father, and they had Billie together. While we don’t know much more about Damien, Henrie—who executive produces the series alongside Gomez—is looking forward to diving more into Alex’s past in future seasons.

“For this next season, we get to explore, who’s her husband? Where is he? Wait, she got married. What’s going on?” Henrie told Decider in a recent interview. “We allude to this love story that happened back in the day. Except now they’ve forgotten each other. So there’s going to be a lot to explore in the third season.”
