Justin Fields needs to speed things up for Jets

HERTFORDSHIRE, England — The Jets might have to trick Justin Fields into thinking he is starting the game in the fourth quarter.

In his first season as Jets quarterback, Fields is putting up respectable numbers … if you just look at the stats. But anyone who has watched the games knows that outside of Week 1 against Pittsburgh, Fields has not played well until garbage time.

The Jets have fallen behind by at least two scores before Fields has thrown a touchdown pass in each of his last three games. Fields has not thrown a touchdown pass before the fourth quarter since Week 1 and the Jets have not scored a rushing or passing touchdown in the first half since that Steelers game.

Fields’ first touchdown pass came with the Jets down 30-3 against the Bills in Week 2, 27-13 against the Dolphins in Week 4 and 30-6 against the Cowboys on Sunday. Fields missed the game against the Buccaneers with a concussion.
