Jaxson Dart’s mom celebrates rookie Giants QB’s back-to-back touchdowns
The Giants brought the “Dart Show” to the Big Easy.
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart picked up where he left off Sunday following last weekend’s win over the Chargers in his first-career start, throwing two touchdowns in New Orleans to put the Giants up over the Saints early in the first half, 14-3.
Moments after tossing his second touchdown of the day, a 15-yard pass to tight end Theo Johnson in the second quarter, CBS cameras panned to Dart’s parents, Kara and Brandon Dart, high-fiving fans inside Caesars Superdome.
Prior to kickoff, Dart joined his biggest supporters on the sideline ahead of his second career start.
The 25th overall pick in April’s NFL draft, Dart was named the Giants’ starting quarterback in late September following a woeful 0-3 start under veteran Russell Wilson.
The former Ole Miss product completed 13 of 20 attempts for 111 yards and one touchdown in the Giants’ 21-18 home win over the Chargers.
Dart had the support of his family, including mom Kara, who became an internet sensation during the draft.
Entering Sunday’s game, Dart said he had a “chip” on his shoulder given the Saints passed on him with the No. 9 overall pick back in April, taking left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. out of Texas instead.
“I think there is always a chip on your shoulder any time that something like that happens,” Dart said Wednesday. “I’m just going to go play as hard as I can.”
Dart went 11 of 16 for 110 yards and two scores in the first half, with the Saints clawing back, 16-14.
Big Blue will receive the ball to start the second half.
The Giants will have a quick turnaround for Week 6 as they’ll host the rival Eagles on “Thursday Night Football.”
The reigning Super Bowl champs entered Week 5 at 4-0.
