NEED TO KNOW

  • A woman says her husband was hit on at work
  • A customer left him a note asking if he was single, alongside her Instagram handle
  • While he claimed to have thrown out the note, his wife later found it

A woman is looking for advice after her husband kept a note from a customer asking if he was single.

In a recent Reddit post, the 35-year-old woman explained that her 30-year-old husband is a server at a local restaurant while she stays home with their kids.

The other night, her husband came home from work and told her he had served a large table of women. One of the female customers left him a note at the end of the night, saying that if he is single, he should message her on Instagram, and she provided her social media handles.

“I worked in food service before and know this can happen, not a big deal. What bothers me is that his coworker told him about the note, a manager threw the note in trash, and then my husband went and got it out of the trash, supposedly to confirm what it said,” the woman shared.

“He then proceeded to tell me how one of his initial thoughts was to message her and say thanks and he’s flattered, but married,” she continued. “He stated that he didn’t want to be rude by not acknowledging the note. Like are we serious?!”

When the woman explained how “uncomfortable” the whole thing made her, she asked multiple times whether he threw the note away, which he assured her he did.

“He said of course, why would he need it?” she continued. “Today I found the note in his stuff. I decided to leave the house.”

When her husband asked her where she was going, she threw the note at him and called him a liar. Her husband called her, saying that he was mad about the way she spoke to him.

“He said that he brought the note home to show me but was too scared to do it. Just straight deflection. He’s been lying a lot lately about other things, like sobriety, so my trust was already limited,” she wrote. “Am I overreacting by thinking, not only did he consider messaging this stranger to not hurt her feelings, but he lied about disposing of her info?”

The woman looked to the comments section for advice, where most people encouraged her to keep a close eye on his behavior moving forward.

“Nah you’re not overreacting. He lied to you. That’s a big deal. Period,” one person wrote. “He dug in the trash for it. I’m getting some serious red flags over here.”

“And not just lied once, but more than once because he was allegedly afraid to tell her at first so he lied about it not being a big deal to him. And then he kept it and confirmed he threw it away,” another added. “You should be afraid to tell your spouse you’re keeping strangers’ numbers because you’re opening the door when you’ve agreed to keep it shut.”

The woman who wrote the post replied, “I know. Ugh I know. I feel so dumb.”
