Here’s What Diddy Mouthed to His Family When He Left the Courtroom After Being Sent to Prison
NEED TO KNOW
- Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison on Friday, Oct. 3
- Since he will get credit for time served, he will be in prison for 36 months — or three years
- He was convicted on two prostitution-related charges back in July
As Sean “Diddy” Combs was leaving a Manhattan federal courtroom after a judge sentenced him to 50 months in prison, the rapper turned to his family members and mouthed, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” and placed his hand over his heart as he has done in the past.
Combs, 55, was convicted in July on transportation to engage in prostitution charges but was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering.
U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian told Diddy that a lengthy sentence was necessary “to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.”

During the sentencing Friday, Oct. 3, Combs had his head lowered, with his shoulders hunched and his hands clasped.
The former Bad Boys Record Founder called his actions “disgusting, shameful and sick” before he was sentenced, stating that his children “deserve better.”
“I’m not this larger-than-life person,” he said. “I’m just a human being.”
“I hate myself right now. I’ve been stripped down to nothing. I’m really truly sorry for it all, no matter what they say,” he said.
Prosecutors had pushed for 11 years in prison, stating that Combs’ “respect for the law is just lip service.”
Earlier in the sentencing proceedings, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik told the judge that Combs had already booked speaking engagements as early as next week, anticipating a possible release from prison.
“That is the height of hubris, your honor,” Slavik said.
Combs’ defense attorneys had asked for 14 months in prison. Since he will get credit for time served, he will now be behind bars for 36 months — or three years.
Combs will also have to pay a fine of $500,000 and adhere to five years of supervised release.
