Taylor Swift is revealing how her fiancé Travis Kelce was able to make his fairytale proposal come to life at his home this past August.

During an Oct. 3 conversation on U.K. talk show The Graham Norton Show (to promote her new album, The Life of a Showgirl), the Grammy-winning artist, 35, shared a brief explanation of how Travis, also 35, pulled off the enchanting setup at his own home.

She explains that it all went down while they were recording her Aug. 13 appearance on New Heights — the podcast Travis hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce — which is part of the reason why it actually caught her by surprise.

“While we were talking on his podcast, he had a complete garden built out the back of his house to propose in,” she said on the talk show.

Fans got a glimpse of the magical scene at the NFL star’s home when the two lovebirds  announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on Aug. 26.

In the photos, Travis can be seen down on one knee as Swift cradles his face in the sweet moment. The two are surrounded by thousands of flowers, with an arch wrapped in lush greenery and two rose-filled planters framing the couple perfectly.

Following the proposal, PEOPLE spoke to floral expert Ashley Greer — a florist and owner of the D.C.-based Atelier Ashley Flowers, who worked on the Obama White House Christmas trees — to break down the logistics of the elaborate garden that Travis had constructed at his home.

At the time, Greer described the scene as an “enchanted garden,” and estimated that the setup likely cost up to $38,000 for all the flowers, greenery and other materials used.

She noted that 800 pounds of greenery was likely needed to achieve this look, as well as 1,200 roses and at least 1,000 other flowers.

“Pulling imagery from so many of [Swift’s] songs, a magical garden scene is constructed amidst August forest trees,” Greer told PEOPLE at the time of the layout, noting that willow, ivy and roses were all used.

Greer also explained how the scene appeared to be centered around a 20-foot “domed arboretum,” with the metalwork covered in vines, roses, lilies and candles interwoven.

For the ground installation, she noted that “boulders, river rocks, plants, white duchess peonies, white scabiosa, ferns and pockets of roses,” appeared to be used as well.

Swift and Travis Kelce were first linked in 2023. They met after he revealed that he tried to give the singer a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it at one of her Eras Tour concerts. He then publicly declared his interest in Swift on his New Heights podcast in July 2023, and they began seeing each other shortly afterwards.

Alongside the photos included in their engagement announcement on Instagram, the couple also shared the simple caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.”
