Bridesmaid Drops Out of Wedding 1 Week Before Ceremony Over Dress Color Dispute

A bridesmaid bowed out of her friend’s wedding party due to her disdain for the color of her dress.

One of the bride’s cousins detailed the dress dilemma in a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Forum,” explaining that the bride is extra worried before her big day now that she’s short one bridesmaid. With the wedding just a week away, no one expected a bridesmaid to drop out at the last minute over something as simple as her attire.

“Bride is stressed but trying not to let it ruin the day,” the bride’s cousin wrote.

The ex-bridesmaid in question had “already spent money on shoes, travel, and the hen do,” but is now “just throwing it away” because she’s unwilling to walk down the aisle in the bridesmaid dress color selected by the bride.

Everyone is confused by this because the color isn’t out of the box. It is a “pretty standard navy blue dress.”

To make matters worse, the color was chosen “months ago,” yet the bridesmaid decided to wait until the eleventh hour to raise her concerns. At the time the shade was determined, “everyone agreed, fittings were done, dresses ordered,” but now the bridesmaid has “suddenly” had a switch up.

“Bride thought she was joking at first, but nope. She returned the dress and announced she won’t be walking down the aisle,” the bride’s cousin said. “No family fight, no huge blowup, just a quiet exit … over the color.”

“[She] says she ‘can’t be part of it’ because navy isn’t her color and she feels it will ruin the photos,” the individual added.

In the comments section, the majority of Redditors speculated that the bridesmaid’s exit from the wedding party wasn’t actually because of her dress color.

“Obviously the color of the dress is just an excuse. For whatever reason this bridesmaid wants/needs to be out of the wedding party,” the top comment reads.

“This is it. Something much bigger going on,” someone else said, with another Reddit user agreeing, “I think there is more to the situation.”

A different top comment echoed these sentiments, reading, “There’s zero chance that this is about the color of the dress. Either the bridesmaid isn’t telling the bride the real reason, or the bride isn’t telling you.”
