All the Gucci Outfits Taylor Swift Teased Were an Easter Egg for ‘The Life of a Showgirl’

NEED TO KNOW

  • Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3
  • The tenth track on the record titled “Cancelled!” references Gucci, and it’s believed that the singer wore outfits from the brand as an Easter egg for the viral song
  • Look back at all of Swift’s recent Gucci looks

Taylor Swift knew what she was doing with those Gucci looks all those months ago.

Now that she’s released The Life of a Showgirl, fans are piecing together one major fashion clue that may have hinted at the album’s 10th track, “Cancelled!” which references the luxury fashion house throughout the lyrics, “Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal.”

In fact, it may explain why Swift had begun incorporating the fashion house into her wardrobe despite having been known to rock brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Louis Vuitton and Versace (but everything is intentional with the pop star, isn’t it?).

It’s possible that the Grammy winner, 35, began planting her Easter eggs as early as the 2024 Golden Globes. She arrived in a snaky green Gucci gown, which yes, had been spun as a sign for Reputation (Taylor’s Version) which has yet to come, but now points to TLOAS more than ever, especially since we know the colors of her new era are orange and green.

That January, Swift had been on a short break from her record-breaking Eras Tour before embarking on the international leg shortly after, and as we all know by now, the tour — which Swift called “the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life” — is what really inspired the album.

And, if you skip ahead to the 2025 Grammys, after commanding the carpet in a red corseted Vivienne Westwood dress, the Miss Americana star slipped into a silver Gucci minidress.

Elsewhere, Swift added Gucci to her catalog of outfits worn on more casual occasions. The most notable look came in the form of a brown shift dress covered in the brand’s iconic logo and was worn on a September 2024 date night with Travis Kelce, who is the muse for many of TLOAS tracks, including the raunchy song, “Wood.”

The look was similar in style to another fall-leaning outfit she wore in October 2024 for another outing with her fiancé. This time, she showed out in a sexy Gucci GG net corset with a $1,650 price tag.

Swift also channeled preppy style opposite an equally dressed up Kelce, 35, for their double date with Patrick and Brittany Mahomes and Kane and Katelyn Brown. She wore a checkered skirt set paired with Gucci Ottavia Leather Platform Loafer Pumps ($1,560).

In June, Swift wore Gucci in a subtler way for her dinner date with Selena Gomez. Instead of going full on logomania or rocking the famous Gucci horsebit, she instead went for a $6,000 monochromatic black sequin silk and wool matching set (with a bedazzled touch of course) and a coordinating handbag.

That being said, nods to Gucci were also prominent in Swift’s recent choice of accessories, including the purse she wore while out with Kelce before the 2025 Super Bowl in January.

Now that Swift’s showgirl era is in full swing, be prepared to see the star in tons of Gucci.

Because, even after hours of releasing the project, Sarah Chapelle of @taylorswiftstyled pointed out that the pop star wore a $2,400 Gucci embroidered miniskirt for press in London. After all, Swift is a mastermind at these kinds of things and no doubt has some more Easter eggs up her sleeve.
