Nina Dobrev Addresses Zac Efron Romance Rumors

Nina Dobrev is setting the record straight on rumors she’s dating Zac Efron after splitting from Shaun White.

TMZ caught up with Dobrev at LAX on Wednesday, Oct. 1, where she shut down any speculation.

The interviewer said, “It must be tough living things out in public,” seemingly referring to her and White calling off their engagement and splitting up after five years together.

“You know what? I’m excited for the future, and the only thing that’s guaranteed is change,” she said.

The interviewer then ended the conversation by asking Dobrev if there “was anything to that Zac Efron [rumor]. I saw photos of you.”

Dobrev smiled and shook her head in response. When the interviewer asked, “You’re just mates?” Dobrev looked at the camera and said, “Yeah.”

Speculation that the Vampire Diaries alum, 36, and the A Family Affair actor, 37, were dating started after they were spotted on a boat together alongside Keleigh Teller, her husband, Miles Teller, 38, and Chace Crawford, 40, who is dating Victoria’s Secret model Kelsey Merritt.

Instagram photos posted by Keleigh, 32, on Sept. 18, showed Dobrev lounging on the boat in a black ab-cutout bathing suit, as well as a multicolored two-piece bikini.

In one picture, the entire group of vacationers posed in formal attire, with Efron sitting behind Keleigh and Dobrev.

PEOPLE confirmed that Dobrev and White, 39, ended their engagement and split after five years together on Sept. 11.

“It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,” a source close to the pair told PEOPLE at the time of the split.

Multiple sources later shared with PEOPLE that Dobrev wanted to get married and start a family, but White was not on the same page.

One source said Dobrev was “devastated” about the matter, but another insider insisted that both White and Dobrev “wanted marriage and kids” and that “it wasn’t just one-sided.”
