Haliey Welch is setting the record straight after an actress claimed her cameo in the new TV series Chad Powers was replaced with an appearance by Welch.
In a video shared by performer Brittney Rae Carrera on Oct. 1, Carrera, 31, appears to learn in real time that her role in the Hulu series had been replaced by Welch, the creator known for the viral “Hawk Tuah” video last summer.
“They replaced me with Hawk Tuah?” the actress asks angrily in the clip, while watching Welch’s cameo in the show with her friends. “This is my scene.”
In December, Carrera previously shared the Chad Powers trailer to her Instagram alongside what appeared to be a cast list that included her name and a photo from the set.
Later in the day, Welch, 21, addressed the video in a post on her Instagram Stories, telling her followers that she had been tagged multiple times in Carrera’s clip and was “in contact” with the actress.
“We’re cool,” wrote Welch. “I wasn’t aware that the role had been filled prior.”
Continued the creator: “It was as simple as this: I was called and asked to be in a tv series with Glenn [sic] Powell and I said yes (bc duh it’s Glen Powell). I wasn’t made aware this was happening and it was in no way malicious at all. I actually love her content and think she is a funny and sweet girl.”
Carrera also further addressed the situation, writing in a post on her Instagram Stories, “I am not upset with Haliey Welch at all🩵🙏🏻.”
“I hope one day she will teach me how to spit on that thang,” she joked, referencing the infamous sex tip that shot Welch into internet stardom last year.
A spokesperson for Hulu did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In an interview with PEOPLE in September, Welch pulled back the curtain on her Chad Powers appearance and recalled meeting Powell, the show’s leading man.

“I was ticked to death when they asked,” said Welch of the invite to participate in the series. “They sent me a script, and they ended up changing it a bit. But I didn’t say too much — I was just happy to be there.”

As for meeting Powell: “I’m not even gonna lie to you. I was scared to talk to him, but him, his whole team, they were all great. They were really sweet,” she said.
In addition to Welch’s first foray into the acting world, the creator recently launched a new Twitch stream named Talk Tuah LIVE, which will allow viewers to interact with her more directly (she previously had a podcast titled Talk Tuah). While Welch says she was initially worried to take on a project that gives internet trolls such easy access to message her, she told PEOPLE that she’s learned how to “take” the “hate comments” a bit more after a year in the spotlight.
“Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion,” she said. “And some of them are really funny, so I can’t even be mad.”
