Bride Demands ’Too Pale’ Bridesmaids Get Spray Tans Before Wedding

NEED TO KNOW

  • A bride insisted that her bridesmaids get spray tans for her wedding, calling them “too pale” for photos
  • When the bridesmaids got their tans, the bride “flipped out” and demanded that they redo it, resulting in refusal from some bridal party members
  • Reddit users told the bridesmaid who wrote about the issue to “stop enabling” the bride’s behavior and not give in to her “ridiculous demands”

A bride’s spray tan demand for her bridesmaids has caused complete chaos.

One of the bride’s cousins, who is a bridesmaid, shared in a recent post on Reddit’s “Bridezillas” forum that the entire bridal party is in disarray after the bride demanded that everyone except for herself get a spray tan before the wedding so that they’re not “too pale” in photos.

“Now the group chat is a total mess,” the bride’s cousin wrote. “Some bridesmaids are refusing to redo it, one is considering backing out completely, and the bride keeps sending long guilt-trip messages about how her wedding will be ruined if we don’t do what she says.”

The woman explained how “things were fine until [the bride] suddenly decided that every bridesmaid has to get a spray tan before the big day.” Initially, a portion of the bridesmaids complied to the demand without complaint and went to their local tanning salon. However, when they returned golden and bronzed, the bride was furious.

“A few of us went and actually got the tans done, thinking it would calm her down, but nope,” the bride’s cousin said. “She flipped out saying we looked too dark and accused us of trying to ‘sabotage her look.’ She even told one bridesmaid she should try to scrub hers off before the wedding.”

“I knew she could be a little controlling, but this is wild,” she added.

The poster noted that the “funny part” is that the bride herself is “very pale” yet refuses to get a spray tan.

“When someone asked why she wouldn’t also do it, she said, ‘I’m the bride, I don’t need to. Everyone else has to match me,’ ” the bride’s cousin said.

She noted in a comment that everyone has been “tiptoeing” around the bride since they agreed to be bridesmaids since they “didn’t want drama,” but not speaking up about her demands is “just making things worse.”

“I don’t mind doing the usual bridesmaid stuff, but I’m definitely drawing the line at changing my skin color or doing anything that feels ridiculous,” the bride’s cousin commented. “If she wants to spiral over that, that’s on her.”

In the comments section, Reddit users said they were tired of reading about so many cases of brides becoming “bridezillas” while wedding planning. They suggested that to combat this issue, bridesmaids need to set boundaries about what kind of requests from the bride are appropriate.

“Tell her ‘no’ from now on,” the top comment reads. “You will do the normal stuff, but no more about tans or other crap. She’s gone off the deep end. And stop enabling it.”

“Just don’t do it. Brides cannot police your body,” someone else commented.

The bride’s cousin agreed with fellow Redditors’ suggestions.

“I’ll do my part as a bridesmaid, but my body isn’t up for negotiation. If she can’t handle that, then that’s her problem, not mine,” she wrote in one comment before adding in another, “We probably should’ve shut it down right away instead of going along with it. Lesson learned, no more giving in to her ridiculous demands. The more we feed into it, the worse she gets.”
