Will There Be a ‘Wayward’ Season 2? What We Know So Far
NEED TO KNOW
- The Netflix limited series Wayward premiered on Sept. 25
- The eight-episode thriller stars Mae Martin and Toni Collette
- Martin, who also wrote and created the series, thinks “there’s definitely more story to tell”
It might not be the end of Wayward.
The Netflix show is set in Tall Pines, a fictional town in Vermont, and the home of Tall Pines Academy, a school for troubled youth. But the facility, run by Evelyn (Toni Collette), turns out to be more sinister than it seems on the surface, with deep roots. But as local police officer Alex (Mae Martin) eventually realizes, everyone in the town is connected to the evil rehab center.
While Wayward‘s premise may seem completely fictional, it was inspired by Martin’s life, as they explained to Tudum in August 2025.
“I was a wayward teen in the early 2000s, and my best friend was sent to one of these troubled teen institutes when she was 16,” she recalled. “She came back and had just the craziest stories about it.”
Although the show was labeled as a limited series, at the end of the eight episodes, unanswered questions remain.
So, will there be a season 2 of Wayward? Here’s what to know about the drama possibly continuing.

Will there be a Wayward season 2?
MICHAEL GIBSON/Netflix
Netflix has not officially renewed Wayward for season 2.
The eight-episode original was billed as a “limited series,” but creator Martin believes “there’s definitely more story to tell.”
Wayward ended with Alex and his wife, Laura (Sarah Gadon), deciding to stay in Tall Pines. After she gives birth to their child, she effectively becomes the new leader of the cult.
Still, the couple’s ending is ambiguous, as is Evelyn’s, since it is not revealed whether she has survived.

Martin is not only one of the stars of Wayward, but they also created the series.
During an interview with TV Insider in September 2025, Martin was asked about the possibility of a second season. “I was told it was a miniseries, but there’s definitely more story to tell, I think,” they said.
“We left all those characters in crisis, basically,” the comedian continued. “Hopefully it’s tied up enough that it’s satisfying to watch as a series.”
What has the Wayward cast said about returning for season 2?
MICHAEL GIBSON/Netflix
It sounds like Martin is open to more Wayward, and so are their castmates.
Alyvia Alyn Lind, who plays Leila, told Decider that she would do another season, “anytime, anywhere. Call me up. I’m there.”
“I had the most incredible time ever working on this project; it was such a blessing, and I would love to come back,” she continued. “Netflix, come on, whenever you want us, we’re here, we’re ready.”
Meanwhile, Collette teased to TV Insider, “It’s endlessly intriguing. Endlessly. So many places it could go, for sure.”
Another cast member, Gadon, added, “Nothing’s tied up in a neat little bow.”
