Matthew McConaughey and Wife Camila Named Godparents of New Princess Cruise Ship (Exclusive)

Matthew and Camila McConaughey are adding godparents to their long list of titles.

PEOPLE can exclusively announce the Oscar-winner, 55, and the New York Times bestselling author, 42, will christen Princess Cruises’ newest ship, the Star Princess, at a naming ceremony on Nov. 6. The celebrity power couple will join a long list of A-listers who have served as godparents for the cruise line in the past, including Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren.

“We’re honored to be godparents of the Star Princess,” Matthew and Camila said in a press release shared with PEOPLE. “With Princess, it’s not just a vacation — it’s time well spent, families and friends coming together, meeting new folks and making memories.”

They added: “This ship’s got that spirit built right in, and we’re proud to be part of her story from the beginning.”

Princess Cruises’ newest ship, the Star Princess, will be the sister to the company’s award-winning Sun Princess. The 21-deck ship can house 4,300 guests and features 1,500 balcony staterooms, 30 distinct dining and bar venues and curated entertainment and activity offerings. 

The ship will embark on its inaugural journey on Oct. 4 as it sets sail on a Mediterranean cruise. The sold-out, 11-day itinerary includes stops in Barcelona; Marseille, France; Rome and Gibraltar. The vessel will then sail across the Atlantic Ocean toward Fort. Lauderdale, Fla. to begin a season of Caribbean voyages on Nov. 7.

With their signature warmth and spirit, Camila and Matthew embody the values that define Princess, and we are delighted to welcome them into our family in such a meaningful way.”

Though, this is not the couple’s first time working with the cruise line. Matthew and Camila, who co-founded the Pantalones Organic Tequila brand, partnered with Princess back in October 2024 to bring their liquor on board the company’s fleet.

The partnership included five signature cocktails using Pantalones tequila: Pants on Fire, Sea Legs, Hot Pants, Fancy Pants Paloma and 24K Gold Margarita. 

Pantalones Organic Tequila joined the company’s “Love Line Premium Liquors” which also includes Liev Schreiber’s Sláinte Irish Whiskey, Pitbull’s Voli 305 Vodka and Jason Aldean’s Melarosa Sauvignon Blanc, Red Blend and Cabernet Sauvignon.
