Fiction and reality came face-to-face at Milan Fashion Week.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, Meryl Streep made a surprise appearance at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 show at Milan Fashion Week in character as fashion boss Miranda Priestly while filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 in the city.

Streep, 76, sat front row at the show beside her costar, Stanley Tucci, who also appeared to be in character as Runway art director Nigel Kipling from the film, while former Vogue editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour — who famously inspired the role of Miranda Priestly — sat opposite Streep at the show. Costar Simone Ashley was also seated behind the fictional fashion icons and appeared with them after the show. Ashley will be playing a new character in the highly anticipated sequel.

Before attending the show, Streep and Wintour, 75, met each other and the pair appeared to get along splendidly, as seen in a video posted on Instagram by Vogue. In the clip, Streep and Wintour shared a hug and happily chatted with one other as they stood by a leopard print interior.

Streep was dressed in full Miranda Priestly mode, in a latex camel-colored trench coat with a leopard print belt and matching clutch, black pants, white sunglasses and satin pumps, as she sported her character’s signature white-gray cropped hairstyle.

Wintour, meanwhile, wore a colorful floral print maxi dress with snakeskin heeled boots. She accessorized her outfit with a stack of gold chain necklaces and a pair of black sunglasses, while sporting her longtime bob haircut.

Tucci, 64, wore a black shirt, gray waistcoat and matching tailored pants, while Ashley, 30, looked chic in a black mesh corset worn with a D&G-branded high-waisted gold mesh skirt, black sunglasses and gold hoops.

Streep’s appearance at Milan Fashion Week comes after the Oscar winner was seen dressed in a glamorous red ballgown as Miranda Preistly as she filmed a Met Gala-like event for The Devil Wears Prada 2 in August.

Streep and Tucci were joined by several actors as they shot scenes for the sequel at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will see the return of several cast members from the 2006 original film The Devil Wears Prada, including Anne Hathaway as Andrea “Andy” Sachs and Emily Blunt, last seen on screen as Miranda’s senior personal assistant Emily Charlton.

According to Variety, the sequel follows Priestly “as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to be released May 1, 2026.
