Illinois Police Investigating After ICE Agent Allegedly Fired Chemical Munitions at Reporter’s Car

A federal immigration agent is under investigation after the car of a CBS reporter in Illinois was allegedly sprayed with a chemical substance outside an ICE facility.

Authorities in Broadview, Ill. say they have opened an investigation into the alleged attack on the vehicle on Sunday, Sept. 28, per the Chicago Sun Times, CBS and FOX 32.

Reporter Asal Rezaei claims she was driving her truck with her window down as she approached an ICE facility in Broadview when her car was suddenly hit with chemical munitions, she said in an interview with CBS.

Rezaei was reportedly at the location to see if there were any activities, per the outlet.

As she was turning her car around, Rezaei alleged, an ICE agent shot a pepper ball about 50 feet away from behind a fence.

The agent allegedly “pointed his weapon and shot directly at my car, he saw my window was open,” Rezaei recounted in her CBS interview, pointing out white powder on the hood of her car.

“A lot of it went inside my car and on my face, I immediately felt it burning. I started throwing up,” Rezaei said.

“The Broadview Police Department expects the full cooperation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security into our criminal investigation,” Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills said in a statement, per the Chicago Sun Times and FOX 32.

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comments.
