Corn dog and sausage on a stick products are being recalled for possible “extraneous material” contamination.
The Hillshire Brands Company recalled 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage on a stick products on Saturday, Sept. 27, according to an U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announcement.
Recalled products, which are sold under State Fair and Jimmy Dean labels, were potentially contaminated with “pieces of wood embedded in the batter,” per the announcement. Hillshire Brands Company received “multiple” complaints including five reported injuries.
The items were sold at retailers nationwide but also distributed to school districts and Department of Defense facilities.
Affected products were packaged between Mar. 17, 2025, and Sept. 26, 2025, and have establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894” on their packages. An internal investigation determined that the wooden sticks “entered the production process prior to product battering.” A full list of affected products can be found here.
The Hillshire Brands Company did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request to comment.
Several ready-to-eat pasta meals were recalled this week.
On Thursday, Sept. 25, Walmart’s Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs and Marinara Sauce and Trader Joe’s Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettuccine Alfredo were linked to a deadly Listeria outbreak, per a FSIS report.
The contamination was discovered when one of the producing companies collected samples of the pre-cooked pasta in part of the ongoing investigation. As of Friday, Sept. 26, the CDC reported that there have been four deaths and 19 hospitalizations across 15 states as a result of the outbreak.
