A first date left a sour taste in one woman’s mouth.

The 19-year-old woman explained on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum that she’s feeling “humiliated” after going on a date with a 20-year-old man who seemingly abandoned her when it was time to pay the bill.

“He was very insistent that we meet at a food market, so I assumed we were going to sit down for an actual meal and showed up slightly hungry,” she wrote of the man she met on a work trip, before describing the date.

“He said he wasn’t really hungry and thought it would be better if we just grabbed something quick and sat down,” she recalled of how their outing began. “I didn’t want to be difficult, and I figured maybe he wanted to treat me but didn’t want to spend too much, so I went along with it.”

The woman ordered only a bagel, while he ordered a frappe.

“When it came time to pay, he suddenly ‘got a phone call.’ The call dragged on, and I didn’t think it would be appropriate to keep the cashier waiting, so I went to pay for myself,” she remembered. “The cashier ended up combining our orders, and I felt pressured into paying for both of us.”

She then offered him half of her bagel, which he proceeded to eat.

“This is after he made a big point about not being hungry,” she said. “I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was a misunderstanding. I even mentioned how good some of the food around us looked and suggested we could try it, but he just said he’d rather not.”

She added that the date and their conversations were “not good.”

“I’ve already decided I won’t be seeing him again, but here’s the part that really bothers me: I ended up paying for both of us, he took half of my food even though he ‘wasn’t hungry,’ and he didn’t even offer to cover something else later,” she emphasized.

She continued, “I’m not exactly swimming in cash right now — and, for context, he comes from a wealthy family — so I feel a little humiliated.”

Now, the woman is wondering whether she should ask the man to pay her back “at least for the frappe, which he didn’t even offer to share with me.”

People on Reddit quickly chimed in with their opinions on the matter.

“Let this go,” one reader said, while another wrote, “Cut your losses and move on — if you don’t like this person, why continue to interact with him?”

Meanwhile, some people validated the woman’s feelings.

“The guy is an a——,” a third Reddit user said bluntly. “I would’ve saved the receipt and then emailed it to him requesting a payment via Zelle or Venmo. Then block his number. He’s a loser.”
