Skylar Thompson Robbed, Injured Before Steelers Game in Ireland

An already injured Skylar Thompson sustained “minor injuries” during a robbery in Ireland.

The 28-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback was jumped and robbed ahead of his team’s NFL Dublin game against the Minnesota Vikings at Dublin’s Croke Park, according to NFL.com.

The incident occurred in the Dame Street area shortly before 3 a.m. local time on Saturday, Sept. 27, and Thompson was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency personnel.

Thompson — who was previously placed on the team’s injured reserve with a hamstring injury on Sept. 10 — “suffered minor injuries but is okay and with the team,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday, Sept. 28.

A Steelers spokesperson is aware of the robbery and told Pelissero, “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”

The NFL Dublin Game on Sept. 28 marked the Steelers’ first regular-season game in Ireland. The Steelers defeated the Vikings, 24-21, during the Week 4 overseas matchup. 

Thompson is in his first season with the Steelers and fourth in the NFL.

The quarterback was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2022 after completing his college football stint with the Kansas State Wildcats.
