Fans are still waiting to learn if the deadly games in Alice in Borderland will continue.
The Japanese live-action series, which was adapted from Haro Aso’s manga series, premiered in 2020. A nod to Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice in Wonderland, the series follows Ryohei Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Yuzuha Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) as they fight for their survival in high-stakes games while trapped in a parallel universe.
After season 2 finally revealed what the Borderlands really are, director and screenwriter Shinsuke Sato said season 3 had to answer a new question.
“Whereas in Season 1 and 2, it was, ‘What is this strange world?’ … we finally figure it out … that they are in a sort of purgatory,” he told Salon in September 2025. “Because the central question has already been solved in Season 2, what new question do we bring to the table? And that was, ‘So we have to return to [Borderland] — but can we come back to the real world?’ ”
So, will there be a season 4 of Alice in Borderland? Here’s everything to know about the future of the hit dystopian thriller.

Netflix has not renewed Alice in Borderland for a fourth season. However, the events of the last finale left viewers wondering if a new installment — or a spinoff — was in the works.
Season 3 picked up three years after Arisu and Usagi made it out of Borderland. But the couple find themselves back in purgatory once again after Usagi is lured back by the chance to see her late father. Though they survive the games and return to the real world, an earthquake in the final scenes sets the stage for a future apocalyptic event that could see more souls arriving in Borderland.
The final scene is set not in Tokyo, but at a bar in Los Angeles. While two men are talking sports, a news segment about an escalating series of earthquakes plays in the background. When a waitress takes their order, viewers can see that her name tag reads “Alice.”
Though nothing has been confirmed, the introduction of this new Alice has fans wondering if an American spinoff is in the franchise’s future.

If Alice in Borderland was renewed for another season, it’s likely that stars Yamazaki and Tsuchiya would reprise their roles as Arisu and Usagi, respectively. Though season 3 saw the death of characters like Ryuji (Kento Kaku) and Banda (Hayato Isomura), several fan-favorites could still return.
Ann (Ayaka Miyoshi), Kuina (Asahina Aya), Chishiya (Nijiro Murakami), Heiya (Yuri Tsunematsu), Aguni (Sho Aoyagi) and Niragi (Dori Sakurada) all make brief cameos in season 3 and have storylines that could be explored in a future season.

Both Yamazaki and Tsuchiya have expressed their interest in continuing Arisu and Usagi’s story.
“I am a fan of the show myself, and to be able to make season three comes with a bit of pressure as well because it’s so beloved by the global audience,” Yamazaki told The Hollywood Reporter in September 2025. “And of course if it’s going to continue in some way, I’ll be very much keen to be part of that.”
Tsuchiya echoed those sentiments and told the outlet that she was surprised the show got the green light for a third season. “When season two wrapped up, I felt like that was a great way to finish the story, so I was kind of surprised when they presented season three to me!” the actress said.
“Thinking ahead, obviously in this season, which you haven’t seen yet, [Usagi is] pregnant, so there’s going to be a child in the future,” Tsuchiya continued. “And she would love to see that child return [to the normal world], not just the two lead characters. The story is set to be familial. I think that could be really interesting.”
