Sabrina Carpenter Tells ‘Vogue’ That Men Are an ‘Entertaining Species to Watch’

Sabrina Carpenter has mixed feelings — in her tongue-in-cheek lyrics and in a new interview — about boys and men.
The Coachella headliner, 26, elaborated on her ever-evolving perspective of men in Vogue Italy’s October cover story, which was published on Sept. 23.
“I do think that men have been a super entertaining species to watch … in positive and negative ways,” the two-time Grammy winner told the outlet, before explaining why. “I feel really adored and inspired and loved by some of them … and really confused and attacked and ridiculed by others.”

Carpenter not only explores her feelings about boys and men on her 2025 chart-topping album Man’s Best Friend — including on lead-off singles “Manchild” and ”Tears” — but also in this latest interview.
“When one of my female friends announces that she’s having a son, I just rejoice for that young boy, because I know he’s going to be raised right,” she said, before continuing with a laugh. “Correct me if I’m wrong, I’ve only been on Earth for 26 years, but I feel like we’ve always kind of had to train them. Unfortunately, it’s a tale as old as time.”
Carpenter often employs humor in her lyrical analysis of men, as was the case with 2024 single “Please Please Please” and the song’s music video, which costarred Carpenter’s then-real-life boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan.
Telling Vogue Italy about using humor and witty remarks in her music and in life, Carpenter said, “Part of life is making light of moments that maybe make us uncomfortable, or at least, that is for me.”

“My whole life I felt like humor was just this … I think it was usually just sort of a wit that kind of saved me,” she added. “It was always there to make sure that at the end of the day I was protecting myself for the future. The sarcasm has passed down generations.”
