Makena White had her boyfriend, PGA golfer Jake Knapp, on her mind in the last Instagram post she shared before her death.

White, 28, died earlier this week, her friend shared on White’s Instagram account on Friday, Sept. 26, calling her “one of a kind” and with a “huge heart overflowing with love.”

Her cause of death remains unclear. Knapp has not competed in a tournament since the FedEx St. Jude Championship ended on Aug. 10.

Knapp, though, was the subject of White’s final Instagram post, which she shared a day later on Aug. 11. Alongside four photos of the pair walking together, she wrote about Knapp making his golf “dreams” come true.

“Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams 🫶🏼,” she wrote. “Second season in the books — forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more!
I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud 💛.”

The pair had been dating for more than two years and went public with their relationship around the time Knapp earned his first PGA Tour win in February 2024 at the Mexico Open.

White grew up in Canada, and attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario before going on to work in medical device sales, PEOPLE previously reported.

In the Instagram post announcing White’s death, her friend praised White’s kindness.

“Makena was one of a kind. She had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love,” her friend wrote. “To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.”

The friend also encouraged donations to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund to honor White’s memory. White’s mother, Crystal, had visited the clinic before her death in 2022, according to a post on their website.
