Katie Thurston Cries About Fake Death Rumors amid Breast Cancer Journey

Katie Thurston is “so mad” about the fake rumors claiming she has died.

In a tearful Instagram Stories video, the 34-year-old Bachelorette alum — who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February — addressed the fake death rumors being posted on social media.

Thurston said in the video, “I literally wanted to take time away from social media, but then I was getting texts from people I don’t normally hear from, and then I got DMs from people, and everyone’s like, ‘Are you okay?’ ”

She also shared screenshots of the fake death rumors, with one Facebook post falsely claiming “Thurston has officially taken her last breath.”

In her reaction video to the rumors, Thurston continued, “I’ve seen this article go around before, but something about tonight really f—— pisses me off. It’s triggering, and I try to report it. There’s just nothing I can do. I just feel helpless. I’m just so mad, so mad right now.”

She also requested help, adding, “If anyone works at Facebook [or] has any suggestion on what I can do please tell me.”

In a follow-up video, Thurston revealed that she was “cleansing [her] heart with old videos of baby Charlie,” her dog.

A day later, on Saturday, Sept. 27, Thurston shared some humor-tinged “breaking news” by poking fun of the fake death rumors.

Alongside a video of her wearing a halo filter, she captioned an Instagram post with, “⚰️BREAKING NEWS! Did you know funeral homes will add steep markups to the cost of caskets? That’s why I want to shoutout @titancasket for coming up with a solution to help save money during your time of mourning. #RIP #WWJD #funeral #moneysavingtips ⚰️Shoutout to @justinesmorris for reminding me to cope with humor 🤍.”

The death rumors come amid Thurston’s stage 4 breast cancer journey, which she has been candid about since announcing her diagnosis.

Most recently, she shared a health update regarding her upcoming double mastectomy, which is slated for November. She also reminded her followers that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
