Ed Sheeran is in “the best shape” of his life.
The “Sapphire” singer, 34, revealed why he embarked on his weight loss journey during a recent discussion with Andy Cohen for Sirius XM’s Small Stage Series.
“I’d put on a load of weight last year, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna hit the gym heavy, try and lose a stone,’ ” Sheeran explained after the Watch What Happens Live host, 57, pointed out how “shredded” the musician was.
“As I was doing that, I was like, ‘I’m gonna see how far I can take this,’ ” the singer-songwriter continued.

While the “A Team” musician has been on his health journey for a few years now, he went on to share that he’s recently had one special goal in mind.
“I’ve never actually ever had a six pack in my life, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna see if I can do it,’ “ Sheeran said.
However, the father of two explained he has found that achieving the abs of his dreams is easier said than done.
“I keep messing up, ’cause I keep being out somewhere being like, ‘I’ll have a couple of beers,’ and it just, you know,” he admitted. “But I’d say it’s going all right. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.”
In December 2019, Sheeran — who shares daughters Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, with his wife Cherry Seaborn — revealed that he lost 50 pounds after he quit smoking and started taking an interest in running.
“I stopped smoking three years ago, and then ever since then started exercising. I love it,” Sheeran recalled during an episode of the Behind the Metal podcast at the time. “I started doing it because when I stopped smoking, I was very aware that my lungs were so full of s— that I needed to clear them out”
The singer also explained that, since he’s not a big fan of gyms, he found success in testing out other methods of staying active.

“There’s nothing like fresh air to really give you a clean out,” Sheeran continued of his decision to start running, adding: “That’s, for me, the main reason why I started doing it.”
Since then, Sheeran’s weight loss journey benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s the first time I’ve been really healthy,” Sheeran told BBC Radio 1 in May 2021. “I’ve kind of stopped all the bad habit stuff in my life. Started exercising every day. I was eating like a takeaway every single day, and now I don’t eat takeaway every single day and it’s been good.”
