Serayah and Tyler Lepley teamed up to bring Tyler Perry‘s romance film Ruth & Boaz to life!
In the Netflix movie, Serayah plays Ruth Moably, a musician who flees Atlanta to care for her late boyfriend’s mother, Naomi (Phylicia Rashad), in rural Tennessee. As she starts her life over, she meets Boaz (Lepley), and they quickly develop a deep romantic connection.
However, Ruth and Boaz’s relationship gets tested when her past follows her and threatens to upend her new, simple life. Ruth & Boaz, which is a modern adaptation of the biblical love story, also stars Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Gregalan Williams, Nijah Brenea, Walnette Santiago Carrington, James Lee Thomas, Christopher Broughton, Jermaine Dupri and Chaundre Hall-Broomfield.
“Ruth & Boaz is a beautiful film about two people falling in love while fighting against outside forces,” Perry shared in a statement with PEOPLE. “DeVon [Franklin] and I loved teaming up to tell a well-known story rooted in scripture but told in a universal way to be enjoyed by a wide audience. Our hope is that people everywhere feel as much love for these characters as we do.”
While the film centers around Serayah and Lepley’s characters’ relationships, in reality, both of them are engaged to their respective partners.

The couple met at a mutual friend’s party in 2021, and although they had instant chemistry, they didn’t start dating until two years later.
The Empire actress and the “Survival Tactics” rapper sparked romance rumors in March 2023 when she appeared in the music video for his song “Show Me,” but they didn’t confirm their romance until June of that year.
Although Serayah and Joey keep much of their relationship private, they announced in 2025 that she was pregnant with their first child together, a baby boy. They have kept their newborn’s name and birthdate quiet, but confirmed in July that they welcomed the little one two months prior.
In July, Serayah also announced that they were engaged and expressed how “grateful” she was for her fiancé. After announcing their pregnancy, she spoke with Essence about their future together.
“I’m so excited to start this new chapter in my life, and I’m looking forward to all of the adventures that come along with it,” she told the outlet. “We are both in love with the idea of expanding our family together. It’s a blessing to be able to share these moments and be in harmony about it all.”
