Harry Hamlin said that a back adjustment from a chiropractor who “had a few drinks” caused an injury that required him to get an epidural during the 2006 Dancing with the Stars Live tour.

The L.A. Law alum, 73, and wife Lisa Rinna, 62, talked about the experience during the Friday, Sept. 26, episode of their podcast, Let’s Not Talk About the Husband. During one stop, Hamlin said, “I remember that the audience was … chanting and stomping their feet. And I had hurt my back that morning taking a suitcase out of the bus.”

The actor, who appeared on the third season of DWTS, continued, “I had a little hitch in my ‘get along,’ and there was a chiropractor backstage. And I said, ‘Hey, man, I gotta go out in five minutes. Can you fix me?’ And he said, ‘Oh, no problem. I’ll fix you right up.’ And he ended up herniating my disc.”

Hamlin said that the next day, he saw a neurosurgeon who “saw me right away and he said, ‘Oh, man. You’re in trouble.’ They did an MRI on my back and he said, ‘You’ll never dance again. You’ll never run again. You need surgery immediately.’ ”

Hamlin quipped, “So he wanted a new Mercedes, I think, this guy. I said, ‘No. I think I’ll just I’ll wait and see how it goes.’ ”

By the time the tour got to Chicago, Hamlin sough help at a sports medicine clinic, where “they stuck an epidural in my back, and I ended up dancing in 30 more cities.”

”I forgot that they shot you with one of those epidurals,” said Rinna, who had her own DWTS experience on season two, but was later eliminated in the seventh week.

Hamlin said his disc was herniated “for years,” but added, “It’s fine now, but it was messed up. It was messed up for a long time.”

Rinna recalled that the tour had “chiropractors in every city,” which she thought was “very helpful.” And while Hamlin agreed, he said that the chiropractor who’d treated him “had a few drinks.”

Hamlin said that the specific chiropractor who treated him was “there with his girlfriend, and he had a few drinks. We were backstage.”

“No mas,” Rinna said. “No chiropractor drinking.”

“But anyway,” Hamlin said, “I’m okay now.”

PEOPLE has learned, “the tour did not tour with anyone in this role at that time. Whoever he is talking about would have been a doctor who he saw in a city while on tour and not associated in anyway with DWTS or DWTS Live.”

Looking back on DWTS — and the athleticism involved in the competition — Hamlin said, “Anybody who takes that on is a superhero … you have to be an Olympian. You have to have won the Super Bowl really to win that contest.”

“Which by the way,” Rinna said, “Neither of us are.”
