A new season of Survivor is underway!
Season 49 of the hit CBS reality competition series introduced a new group of castaways when it premiered on Sept. 24. The 18 fresh players faced off in their first round of competitions before facing the tribal council and ultimately choosing the first player to send home.
Host Jeff Probst reminded the contestants that, in addition to the sole survivor winning the grand prize of $1 million, they will also be competing to score one of the two spots for next year’s all-star 50th season.
“Every season of Survivor is unique, and that is definitely the case for Survivor 49,” Probst told Entertainment Weekly in May 2025. “This is a very likable and quirky group of players that are going to encounter a Fijian summer so sweltering it feels like the jungle is breathing on you.”
As the season goes on, the tribes will dwindle down until there’s one sole survivor. After the premiere episode on Sept. 24, the first contestant was sent to the mainland.

Who was eliminated from Survivor?
Nicole Mazullo
Robert Voets/CBS
Nicole Mazullo was the first person who was sent home by her Kele tribe. She is a Long Island, N.Y., native who worked as a financial crime consultant in Philadelphia before heading to Fiji.
Before entering the competition, Mazullo told Parade that she describes herself as the “love child” of legendary Survivor alums Boston Rob Mariano and Shambo Waters.
“Survivor is all about having fun and playing a game like you’re a kid again,” she told the outlet. “I love that! I’ve watched this show with my three siblings, with my NYC roommates, and with my girlfriend in Philly. Where I’ve been, Survivor has followed!”
After her tribe secretly conspired to vote her out, Mazullo appeared speechless and shocked when leaving the competition without addressing her tribe members.
“All six of them thought they were in on it,” Probst told EW of the Kele tribe. “One of them were clearly not in on it. Nicole was blindsided. You could tell. She didn’t even say anything on her way out. Despite all the conversation we had about whether this first vote would be personal or not, it was clearly personal. How can it not be personal?”
