Kerr Smith is getting back to his Capeside roots.
Just days after the actor, along with costars Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta, Meredith Monroe and Busy Philipps, all appeared in the one-night-only reunion event, Smith, 53, shared another project that’s rooted in his time on Dawson’s Creek.
Smith is working on a book, titled I Don’t Want to Wait: My Journey on Dawson’s Creek Without a Paddle, due for release in Fall 2026.
Sharing the news on Instagram, he wrote, “It’s been a wild ride since Capeside. I’m writing a book that dives into my journey and all things Dawson’s Creek — and I want to bring you along for it. 📩 Subscribe to get behind-the-scenes updates and be the first to know when it’s ready.”

Smith recently chatted with Us Weekly about the book, sharing how, “It’s been fun to revisit everything and rewatch a lot of the episodes.”
“All those memories just start pouring back in,” he told the outlet. “I miss Wilmington. My entire career, I have tried to recreate that bubble, that camp, that Wilmington scenario, because on the weekends, we had so much fun.”
The book will share Smith’s memories of creating Jack McPhee’s journey on the show, including his unforgettable coming-out story, which featured the first kiss between two men on primetime.
“I had just landed the most incredible role in Hollywood — at least in my mind, for being that age and being so new. Three months later, after integrating myself into the other four and just getting through that mess of making sure I feel at home and comfortable, now I’m being asked to play something that’s very different. It was very risky at that time,” Smith shared of the experience.
“I’m glad I took the risk. We’re really proud.”

Dawson’s Creek ran on The WB (now The CW) from 1998 to 2003. Created by Kevin Williamson, the series followed two childhood best friends navigating different stages of their teen years and beyond.
When the teen drama made its splashy debut on The WB in 1998, viewers were instantly hooked by the emotional storylines and unforgettable cast that carried the series through six seasons.
The memories of Capeside are that much more important to both the cast and fans as they honor and support Van Der Beek, who was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. Reflecting on the moment just before taking the stage with his castmates, Smith shared a video on Instagram.
In the caption, he wrote, “Thank you so much to everyone involved for the #dawsonscreek reunion Monday night. It was incredible getting to play at the #richardrodgerstheatre in #nyc. My #broadway [premiere]! 🙏❤️.”
