Deion Sanders has an announcement to make.
Sanders, 58, also known as Coach Prime, revealed on Travis and Jason Kelce‘s New Heights podcast that his name isn’t actually “Deion” and explained the backstory behind why it was changed.
“Is it true that your name is actually spelled ‘D-I-O-N,’ ” Jason, 37, asked Sanders, who was a guest on the NFL siblings’ show on Monday, Sept. 22.
A shocked Sanders replied, “Where do you guys get this stuff from? That’s true!”

Both the former Philadelphia Eagles center and his Kansas City Chiefs tight end brother, in disbelief, asked, “It’s true?” To which Sanders confirmed before explaining how the new spelling came to be.
“But let me tell you what I did,” the football coach said. “You’re going to school learning how to spell and we all learned the song. If I say the first part, you gotta finish the second part,” he made clear.
He sang, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm…” To which the Kelce brothers sang in unison, “E-I-E-I-O.”
“E-I-O,” reiterated the father of five, saying, “So it was ‘D-E-I-O-N.”

“I got it from Old MacDonald!” he emphasized. “On my birth certificate, it’s D-I-O-N, but I’ve always spelled it D-E-I-O-N.”
Both Jason and Travis burst into laughter along with Sanders, who was serious about his name’s spelling and why it’s not what it says on his birth certificate.
“You know how bad you gotta be to just change your name and people just go along with it?” the retired Eagles star told the NFL legend.
Sanders was all smiles on the New Heights podcast, which came in the wake of his recovery from bladder cancer. He revealed his health news for the first time on July 28.

Since then, Sanders has opened up about his medical journey both in interviews and in an emotional series called “For Your Glory,” produced by his son Deion Sanders Jr.‘s company Well Off Media.
After months of speculation on his health issues, Sanders appeared alongside his doctor in a press conference at the University of Colorado. Dr. Janet Kukreja, the director of urological oncology at University of Colorado Cancer Center said the head coach has been “cured” of cancer.
“When we hear that word, it’s usually a life sentence attached to it,” he said of his cancer diagnosis during the presser. “But not this time. Not this time, because God got me.”
