As homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to singer d4vd earlier this month in Los Angeles, more questions are emerging.

Days after the Sept. 8 discovery at an impound lot, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the remains as the 15-year-old girl. Her cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

Officers responded to the scene after a foul odor was reported coming from the vehicle reportedly registered to the 20-year-old singer, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office then confirmed to NBC News that Rivas had been reported missing in 2024 out of Lake Elsinore, Calif. She was remembered by loved ones on a GoFundMe campaign as a “beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.”

According to a new report from the Los Angeles Times, the sheriff’s office said Rivas had been reported missing at least three times that year — and residents claimed she had run away from home before, though her last known whereabouts remain unclear.

The singer has not been named a suspect or charged with a crime, but a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told PEOPLE on Sept. 18 that detectives served a search warrant at a local address in connection with the girl’s death. That address was where the singer had been staying, law enforcement sources told KABC-TV and the L.A. Times.

The police spokesperson added that “several items of evidence were recovered” and that investigators are following up on “several leads.”

According to the L.A. Times, law enforcement sources said the items seized from the rental home include electronics and computers.

A rep for the singer previously told NBC Los Angeles he had been “informed about what’s happened” and is “fully cooperating with the authorities.” d4vd’s rep has not responded to multiple requests for comment from PEOPLE.

Investigators have not shared any information on whether d4vd and Rivas had any connection.

However, the medical examiner identified Rivas as having a tattoo that read “Shhh…” on her right index finger, per the L.A. Times.

Meanwhile, a photo of d4vd from September 2024 shows him having a “Shhh” tattoo on his right index finger. Authorities have not yet addressed the seemingly matching tattoos.
