Carey and Cannon were married from 2008 until their divorce in 2016. They welcomed their twins in 2011.

This isn’t the first time Carey has spoken about her co-parenting relationship with Cannon. This past July, the singer addressed it in an interview for Harper’s Bazaar.

“How do I say this? They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time,” Carey told the outlet.

“I want to make sure I’m always fair about the situation because it’s tough to grow up with divorced parents,” she continued.

Despite not being together, Carey and Cannon continue to support each other from afar and their kids, whom they’ve affectionately dubbed “dem kids.”

“They’re a lot, but they give me so much love in return. I wouldn’t be the same person without them,” Carey told PEOPLE in 2019. “I think Nick and I have done pretty well in co-parenting, staying friends with each other so that we can talk.”

This past December, Carey shared how she’d feel if her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, would follow in both of their parents’ footsteps and begin working in the entertainment industry.

“I think they’re both very talented and smart, and if they want to pursue having a life as an entertainer, then I think they should,” Carey told PEOPLE of her two kids.

She added, “It’s a hard kind of life, but they seem to really love performing, so I’m happy for them.”
