On Sept. 22, the Walt Disney Company issued a statement confirming that Jimmy Kimmel‘s late-night talk show would return to air, six days after it was “indefinitely” pulled by ABC over comments he made about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk‘s death during his Sept. 15 monologue.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive,” the statement read, going on to confirm the show’s return.

Despite ABC resuming production of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, not everyone will be able to watch the episode on their TV, as broadcasters Sinclair and Nexstar have upheld their decisions from last week to preempt the program across its ABC affiliates. Sinclair, the broadcasting company with the nation’s largest ABC affiliate group, shared a list of demands that Kimmel would have to meet before the company would lift the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC stations, which included Kimmel issuing a “direct apology to the Kirk family” and making a “meaningful personal donation” to them and Turning Point USA, Kirk’s nonprofit that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college and university campuses.

The media company continued that “regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program,” Jimmy Kimmel Live! would not return on its affiliate ABC stations until it is “confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”

The Walt Disney Company’s statement shared that the decision to return the show on Tuesday came after “days [of] having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy.”

Actor Glen Powell and singer Sarah MacLachlan are expected to appear on the Sept. 23 episode, with Ethan Hawke, Peyton Manning, Lisa Ann Walter and more slated for later in the week.

Which stations won’t air Jimmy Kimmel Live!?

Although Jimmy Kimmel Live! is returning to air, it won’t be available on everyone’s TV stations. On Sept. 22, Sinclair announced in a post on X that it would be “preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations,” and Nexstar followed suit one day later.

“We made a decision last week to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s ‘ill-timed and insensitive’ comments at a critical time in our national discourse,” Nexstar’s statement on Sept. 23 read. “We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.”

Sinclair has ABC stations in 30 U.S. markets, including but not limited to KOMO in Seattle, Wash., WJLA in Washington, D.C., KDNL in St. Louis, Mo., KTUL in Tulsa, Okla., KATU in Portland, Ore. and WHAM in Rochester, N.Y. A full list of Sinclair’s ABC stations can be found here.

In their Sept. 22 statement, Sinclair announced that it would be replacing Jimmy Kimmel Live! with news programming. “Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” the statement continued.

One day later, Nexstar shared in their statement that their stations will “focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets.”
